Nigerian students receive double upkeep payments due to platform glitch

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has alerted the public to a reported glitch in the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) payment system. Some beneficiaries have allegedly received their June and July upkeep allowances twice, according to NANS National President Akinteye Babatunde. He attributed the issue to a problem with the NIP payment platform.

Babatunde advised students who received double payments to save the extra funds, suggesting they might be applied to future allowances. The payment of June and July NELFUND upkeep allowances has officially commenced.

NELFUND has not yet released an official statement confirming the duplicate payments or clarifying whether students will be required to repay the excess amounts or if they will be deducted from future disbursements. PUNCH Online had previously reported the commencement of June and July upkeep allowance payments to student beneficiaries nationwide, a development confirmed by NANS. Babatunde had assured students that all outstanding backlogs would be cleared, with payments being processed in batches to avoid panic among those yet to receive their allowances.
