Nigerian students win gold at Spelling Bee World Cup in China

Team Nigeria has achieved a historic Gold Award in the Middle School Group Category at the 2026 Spelling Bee World Cup held in Shanghai, China. The announcement came Sunday from the Nigeria Spelling Bee organization via its official Facebook page.

Two students from Ar-Raheem International College in Ilorin, Maryam Yusuf and Abdurrahman Yusuf, were among the medalists. The school proudly shared their achievement on Facebook, confirming their success at the global finals. This accomplishment marks a significant milestone for Nigerian students on the international spelling stage.

The Nigerian contingent's participation was a first for the nation at the Spelling Bee World Cup. The four-member team qualified through rigorous national and continental competitions, including the Nigeria Spelling Bee and the African Spelling Bee Championship in Harare, Zimbabwe. The team also included Oluwadamilola Adeolu and Chinedu Okediachi.
