Nigerian troops disrupt terrorist logistics, neutralize IED threat, arrest suspects in Zamfara

Nigerian troops have achieved significant successes against terrorists in Zamfara State, disrupting their movements and neutralizing threats. In a series of operations conducted on August 7, 2026, the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, intercepted an alleged logistics supplier and recovered military-related items.

One key operation involved troops responding to a suspected IED near Jabanda village. Working with a Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, they located and cleared the device, reopening the road to motorists. During a subsequent encounter with suspected terrorists near Birnin Tsaba village, troops engaged the group, forcing them to flee. A search of the area yielded two motorcycles, a camouflage jungle hat, and a handheld radio.

In another incident in Shinkafi Local Government Area, troops, supported by the Mobile Police Squadron, acted on intelligence regarding suspected terrorist activity. They engaged the suspects, who withdrew, and a search recovered a motorcycle, two camouflage uniforms, and a jungle vest. The most significant arrest occurred near Maradun, where troops intercepted Lawali Dan Alo, a suspected terrorist collaborator and logistics supplier. A search of his bag revealed N5.302 million in cash. Preliminary interrogation indicated he was delivering funds for a terrorist leader to another individual, Kasimu Garba, who was also arrested. Both suspects are in custody for further investigation.
