Nigerian troops repel ISWAP attack on Borno base, recover weapons

Troops of the Joint Task Force in Northeast Nigeria have successfully repelled an attack by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on a military base in Borno State. The engagement resulted in the neutralization of several terrorists and the recovery of weapons, ammunition, and communication equipment.

At about 12:20 a.m. on 10 August 2026, a large number of terrorists launched an assault in an attempt to overrun the troops’ position. The gallant troops responded with determined and effective fire, forcing the attackers to withdraw after sustaining heavy casualties.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Monday, August 10, 2026, when a large group of ISWAP terrorists attempted to overrun the Forward Operating Base in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area. Soldiers responded with intense and effective fire, forcing the attackers to retreat after sustaining significant casualties.

During the fierce exchange, some Nigerian troops sustained injuries, and damage occurred to combat enablers and vehicles due to Rocket Propelled Grenade fire. The injured personnel were airlifted for medical attention and are reported to be in stable condition.

Few troops sustained injuries during the engagement as a part of the defences was temporarily breached leading to damage to some combat enablers and vehicles from Rocket Propelled Grenade fires.

Following the engagement, troops have maintained a strong presence around the base and adjacent areas to ensure security and monitor for any further terrorist attempts. The military urged residents to remain calm and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
