Soldiers repel midnight terror attack in Borno

Soldiers in Nigeria's Borno State successfully repelled an overnight attack by suspected members of Boko Haram or the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). The militants launched a significant assault on a military base in Gajiram, the headquarters of Nganzai Local Government Area.

The attack occurred around 1 a.m. on Monday, with insurgents storming the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in large numbers, apparently aiming to overrun the facility. Soldiers at the base shared distress voice notes, reporting that they fought back and killed several insurgents during the confrontation.

However, the soldiers also indicated that several personnel were injured during the intense exchange and appealed for their immediate evacuation for medical treatment. Reports suggest the insurgents may have set fire to operational vehicles, ammunition, and other military equipment during the assault. Troops requested urgent reinforcements, additional ammunition, and logistical support.

As of the report's publication, the Nigerian Army had not officially confirmed the attack, the number of casualties, or the soldiers' claims of killing numerous insurgents. An inquiry sent to the Army spokesperson, Colonel Onyechi Anele, had not yet received a response.
