Nigerian troops rescue 14 kidnapped victims in Katsina operation

Troops conducting counter-terrorism operations in Katsina State have successfully rescued 14 kidnapped victims, including six males and eight females, in the Sabuwa Local Government Area. The operation, part of Operation Fansan Yamma, occurred on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, following credible intelligence regarding terrorists moving with captives near Madaci Forest.

Upon receiving the information, troops from the Joint Task Force North West swiftly mobilized to the area. They engaged the terrorists, who subsequently abandoned their captives and fled into the surrounding bushes. The swift response allowed for the safe rescue of all 14 individuals.

Following exploitation of the area, troops successfully rescued 14 victims comprising six males and eight females.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were abducted from different locations across the Dandume, Bakori, and Funtua general areas of the state. Following their rescue, the victims were handed over to the appropriate local authorities. They will be reunited with their families after necessary procedures are completed.

Lit-Col. Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, stated that the successful operation highlights the troops' responsiveness and determination to protect lives and thwart criminal activities by terrorists. He reassured the public that troops will continue to intensify operations and maintain pressure on terrorist elements to safeguard communities throughout the North-West region. The military also urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security forces.
