Nigerian Woman Remains Unreachable After Arriving at Doha Airport

Saratu Jibo Yusuf’s family is searching for answers after the 37-year-old Nigerian woman became unreachable shortly after arriving at Doha airport on her first trip outside Nigeria.

Yusuf travelled from Lagos on Qatar Airways flight QR1408 on Sept. 1, according to a ticket seen by PREMIUM TIMES. Her brother, Jonathan Jibo, said their last contact came through WhatsApp while she was still aboard the aircraft, using its Wi-Fi.

A family friend was waiting at the airport to receive her but could not find her after the flight landed. The family contacted the airline and airport authorities and was told Yusuf had collected her luggage and left the terminal. Jibo said the situation was especially worrying because his sister had worked at Lagos airport for almost 12 years and knew airport procedures.

Relatives had arranged and paid for her accommodation months earlier, and she was expected to begin work in Doha a few weeks after arriving.

Jibo said Yusuf had financed the trip herself and that the family had no reason to believe she would voluntarily cut off communication immediately after landing. “She worked and financed everything from scratch,” he said. After 48 hours without hearing from her, he raised the alarm on Thursday and called for airport CCTV footage to be reviewed. The family has sent details to Nigerian authorities and the Nigerian Embassy in Doha while relatives await information about her whereabouts.
