NiMet predicts three-day sunshine, moderate rains across Nigeria

Nigeria is set to experience a mix of sunshine, cloudiness, and moderate rainfall with thunderstorms over the weekend and into Monday, according to the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).

The agency's weather outlook indicates sunny skies with scattered clouds over the northern region on Saturday. However, parts of Taraba, Adamawa, and Kaduna states can expect morning thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rains. In the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms are forecast for Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba states.

Similar weather patterns are predicted for the North Central region, with thunderstorms and moderate rains expected over Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory throughout the day. The southern region will also see moderate rains over Ondo, Ogun, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Lagos, and Bayelsa states in the morning, with the possibility of more widespread rain later in the day.

Sunday's forecast shows thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba in the north during the morning, extending to Borno, Jigawa, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa later. The North Central region anticipates thunderstorms and moderate rains, while the southern states can expect light morning rains with thunderstorms and moderate rains forecast for the rest of the day.

Looking ahead to Monday, the northern region is expected to have partly cloudy skies with chances of light rain and thunderstorms in the morning, followed by moderate rains in the afternoon and evening. The North Central region will see sunny skies in the morning before thunderstorms and moderate rains arrive later. In the south, a cloudy atmosphere is expected with prospects of light morning rains, followed by thunderstorms and moderate rains throughout the region.
