NiMet secures ISO certification for three airports

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has secured ISO 9001:2015 certification for its aeronautical meteorological services at the Yola, Osubi, and Owerri airports. This achievement aligns with a directive from the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who urged NiMet's leadership to ensure strict compliance with safety regulations and elevate Nigeria's standing with international aviation bodies like the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The certification process involved a rigorous third-party audit conducted by Certech Inc., Canada, from July 20 to 23, 2026. NiMet's products and services provided to airlines at these airports were found to conform to the ISO 9001:2015 standard. This success builds upon previous certifications and recertifications at other key Nigerian international airports, including Lagos, Kano, Abuja, Enugu, and Port Harcourt.

The agency has been recertified to the same standard at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (Lagos), Aminu Kano International Airport (Kano), Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (Abuja), Enugu International Airport, and Port Harcourt International Airport (Omagwa). The latest certification is valid for three years, with annual surveillance audits scheduled until the next recertification exercise in 2029. This signifies a commitment to maintaining and continuously improving the quality of meteorological services essential for aviation safety and efficiency across Nigerian airports.
