Nine Bedrooms and a Film Studio: Meghan Markle’s Reported Demands for a New Home

Nine bedrooms, a film studio and as much privacy as possible reportedly top Meghan Markle’s list for a new family home in Britain. She and Prince Harry returned to the country this week with their two children, six years after leaving royal duties and moving to California.

The family arrived by private jet and then traveled in a convoy of black SUVs. Until they find a permanent residence, they are staying at a second home belonging to an affluent friend in the Cotswolds.

According to the Daily Mail, Markle wants a property with the same number of bedrooms as the family’s main home in Montecito, California. Harry’s reported requirements include a large amount of land and no public footpaths crossing the property. Privacy is described as one of the couple’s main priorities.

Earlier reports said the Sussexes had identified a property worth about $16.2 million. Three sources told the Daily Mail that no deal had yet been completed. Cost does not appear to be an insurmountable obstacle, as the couple reportedly has a “huge budget” despite a decline in the major Hollywood deals they previously secured. Friends say they do not intend to sell the Montecito estate.

If they buy a British home, the couple could have three properties: the California mansion, their Portuguese holiday home valued at about $8.5 million, and the residence they are seeking in the Cotswolds. The Montecito property covers roughly 30 acres and carries mortgage and tax costs of more than $600,000 a year. Its monthly mortgage payment reportedly ranges from $40,000 to $43,000, while 2025 property taxes reached $149,668. Security, maintenance and guarding costs are not included.
