Nine Campuses, One Heart: UPDS Inaugurates First National Student Futsal Championship | El Deber (BO)

The Universidad Privada Domingo Savio (UPDS) has initiated its inaugural National Student Futsal Championship, transforming a Santa Cruz sports venue into a hub for students from across Bolivia. The event, dubbed Copa UPDS 2026, brings together approximately 500 students representing ten teams from the country's nine departments.

More than just a competition, the championship serves as a platform for celebrating identity, fostering companionship, and sharing aspirations. Students arrived in Santa Cruz not only carrying the names of their respective campuses but also the pride of their regions and the excitement of uniting on a single court for the first time. This event aims to transcend regional differences through the common language of sport.

For months, students from UPDS's nine campuses participated in qualifying tournaments within their own regions. They formed teams, organized matches, and competed fiercely for the chance to represent their university communities. Each pass, goal, and minute played culminated in this national gathering.

The championship spans three days and seven rounds, with the CECYD Sports and Cultural Center serving as the venue. It is designed to highlight how regional distinctions can enrich rather than divide, bringing together diverse customs and celebrations under the unified UPDS identity. The tournament's origin lies within the student body itself, stemming from their initiative, organizational skills, and desire for connection.

Unlike institutional selections for external sports associations, this championship is driven by the spontaneous desire of university students to play, share, and represent their communities. UPDS emphasizes that crucial university experiences extend beyond the classroom, encompassing the development of trust, resilience after defeat, and the understanding that success is a collective effort.
