Nine Taiwanese counties face high temperatures Thursday, some possibly exceeding 36 degrees Celsius

Taiwan is bracing for a heatwave as the Central Weather Administration (CWA) has issued high-temperature advisories for nine counties and cities on Thursday. Several areas, including New Taipei, Changhua, Nantou, Yunlin, Tainan, Pingtung, and Hualien, are under an orange alert, indicating a high probability of continuous temperatures reaching 36 degrees Celsius.

Chiayi and Yilan counties are under a yellow alert, with temperatures expected to exceed 36 degrees Celsius. The CWA is urging the public to take precautions such as wearing sunscreen and drinking plenty of water to prevent heatstroke. It also recommends limiting non-essential outdoor activities and strenuous exercise.

For those indoors, maintaining good ventilation and keeping cool is advised. Suggestions include using fans or ice packs for cooling. The CWA also emphasizes the importance of checking on vulnerable populations, including the elderly, children, individuals with chronic illnesses, and outdoor workers, to ensure they stay safe in the high temperatures.
