Nine-year-old boy injured during operation against illegal street races in Parque Rivera

An operation to break up illegal street racing in Montevideo's Parque Rivera on Sunday afternoon met with a violent response from participants, resulting in injuries.

Authorities, including the Operational Response Area and Republican Guard, attempted to disperse a gathering of vehicles engaged in dangerous "picadas" (street races). Police reported that attendees reacted aggressively, throwing objects and executing risky maneuvers that endangered officers. Officers used less-lethal means to disperse the crowd.

During the confrontation, a 25-year-old man sustained injuries and was attended to by police but declined hospital transport. Following the operation, parents reported that their nine-year-old son, who was near the park, was also injured by stray objects. The child received medical attention and was released.

The incident is now under the purview of the 15th Turn Prosecutor's Office, which has initiated investigations. Videos capturing parts of the police operation in Parque Rivera have surfaced on social media platforms.
