Ninove mayor bans 16 youths after park gang fights

Mayor Guy D'haeseleer has issued a one-month ban on 16 youths after a series of gang fights erupted in Ninove's city park. The confrontations, which saw police discover weapons including hammers and knives, have led to increased police patrols in the park and the town center. The ban prohibits the youths from entering the park and surrounding areas, as well as specific streets in the station neighborhood. D'haeseleer, representing Forza Ninove, stated the measures are urgently needed to curb disruptive behavior and reclaim the park for its intended users. "It must be clear that there is no place for young people who are turning our city upside down," he declared. "I will use all legal means available to me to tackle these young people." The mayor emphasized his commitment to taking decisive action against these gangs to ensure the park is safe for parents and children. He also urged any young people who are victims of violence, intimidation, or extortion to report incidents to the local police.
