Nintendo reveals new Zelda projects and products for the series’ 40th anniversary

Nintendo’s special presentation for The Legend of Zelda’s 40th anniversary brought a series of announcements for 2026 and 2027, including the first trailer for a remake of Ocarina of Time.

The conference opened with a symphonic presentation of some of the saga’s best-known melodies, accompanied by scenes from its games and its main characters. The original The Legend of Zelda launched in Japan on February 21, 1986, and was created by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka.

The Ocarina of Time remake will launch on November 5 for Nintendo Switch 2. Originally released for Nintendo 64 in 1998, the game will feature a new visual style for Hyrule and updated exploration mechanics, including a jumping system for Link. It will also include more realistic graphics, Spanish dubbing and a physical element inspired by a real ocarina. Players will be able to play melodies into the instrument, or simply hum them, so the microphone can reproduce them in the game.

Nintendo also revealed the official title of the franchise’s live-action film: The Legend of Zelda. The film will open in Mexico on April 30, 2027. No trailer was shown, but Miyamoto said the film draws on the stories, ideas and concepts developed across four decades of adventures.

Composer Koji Kondo announced a concert tour beginning April 3, 2027, across Europe, North America and Australia. Nintendo will release two amiibo based on child versions of Link and Zelda, which will unlock special masks in the remake. A Zelda-themed special-edition Switch 2, inspired by the Triforce, will arrive on October 29 alongside a Pro Controller and protective case.
