Nirmal Purja, Entire Expedition Perish in Broad Peak Avalanche

Tragedy struck the world of mountaineering as renowned Nepali climber Nirmal Purja and his entire expedition team perished in an avalanche on Broad Peak, located in northern Pakistan. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, has been confirmed by Purja's company, Elite Exped.

Purja, globally recognized for his record-breaking feat of scaling all 14 of the world's highest mountains in just over six months in 2019, was leading a team of ten climbers when the devastating avalanche hit. His company shared the grim news on Instagram, stating, "Today, with deep sadness and immense pain, we confirm that Nirmal 'Nimsdai' Purja has tragically lost his life as a result of the avalanche that occurred on Broad Peak. We have also received confirmation that, unfortunately, other members of the expedition have not survived."

A search and rescue operation was launched following the incident. As of Saturday, Pakistani authorities reported finding the bodies of nine expedition members. The search continues for the tenth climber, who remains missing. The Broad Peak, also known locally as Falchan Kangri, stands at 8,047 meters and is the twelfth highest mountain globally and third in the Karakoram range.
