Nirmal Purja, mountaineer famous for Netflix documentary, dies in Pakistan avalanche

Renowned Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja has died at the age of 43 after being caught in an avalanche in Pakistan. Purja was leading an expedition on Broad Peak, one of the world's highest mountains, when the incident occurred on Thursday, July 30.

An intensive search operation was launched for the ten climbers in Purja's group. By Friday, four bodies had been found, but weather conditions forced a pause in the search. The operation resumed on Saturday, and Purja, widely known for the Netflix documentary "14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible," was confirmed to have been found deceased.

Elite Expeditions, Purja's company, confirmed the tragic loss in a statement on social media. "With deep sadness and immense pain, we confirm that Nirmal Purja tragically lost his life following the avalanche on Broad Peak," the statement read.
