Nissan launches new Elgrand flagship MPV in Japan to challenge Toyota Alphard

Nissan has officially launched its all-new Elgrand flagship MPV in Japan, positioning it as a direct competitor to the Toyota Alphard. The redesigned vehicle, first unveiled at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show, blends traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern luxury and advanced powertrain technology.

The new Elgrand boasts an exterior design inspired by "Timeless Japanese Futurism" and traditional Japanese elements like the "kumiko" pattern grille. Inside, the cabin is designed as a VIP lounge, featuring premium TailorFit leather, rosewood trim, and dual 14.3-inch screens for the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system. Special "kumiko" quilting adorns the door panels and seats, enhancing the luxurious ambiance.

Nissan's latest third-generation e-Power hybrid system powers the Elgrand, utilizing a 1.5-liter gasoline engine for power generation. This is paired with an upgraded e-4orce all-wheel-drive system and an active suspension system, promising a quiet, smooth, and efficient driving experience. The vehicle offers three rows of seating for up to seven passengers, featuring Nissan's signature "Zero Gravity" seats, with the second row offering captain's chairs with power leg rests.

Available in multiple trims including X, G, Autech Line, and a VIP specification, the new Elgrand is priced between 6.897 million and 8.6988 million yen (approximately NT$1.37 to NT$1.73 million). With its comprehensive upgrades in design, comfort, and technology, the Elgrand is poised to challenge the established dominance of the Toyota Alphard in the premium MPV segment.
