NITT partners foundation to train female professional drivers

The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) is collaborating with the Workbridge Empowerment Foundation to train and certify women as professional drivers, aiming to create sustainable employment opportunities and bridge the gender gap in Nigeria's transportation sector.

This partnership, implemented with the Women Drive Nigeria Initiative, will see NITT deliver professional driver training and certification, while the Workbridge Empowerment Foundation handles participant recruitment. The program has already attracted over 100 women for its pilot phase. Dr. Bayero Farah, Director-General/CEO of NITT, emphasized that the initiative goes beyond basic driving, equipping women with the knowledge to manage road incidents effectively.

The agreement was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding signed at the FRSC headquarters in Abuja. Officials from NITT and the Workbridge Empowerment Foundation, including its Team Leader Abdullahi Umar, were present at the signing ceremony. This initiative is expected to empower women economically and enhance their participation in a sector traditionally dominated by men.
