NK Osijek President Faces Investigation Over Sports Law Violations

Aleksandra Vegh, the president of Croatian football club NK Osijek, faces a potential "drastic penalty" as an investigation into alleged violations of sports law intensifies. Vegh, who assumed the presidency in February, is suspected of simultaneously holding positions that create a conflict of interest and contravene legal statutes.

The core of the investigation centers on Article 112 of the Sports Law, which prohibits the president of a club from engaging in player transfers. Vegh is the owner of V Agency, a company that manages player sales, alongside her brother Gabor. This dual role, acting as both club president and owner of a player agency, is seen as a direct violation of the law.

NK Osijek initially denied any wrongdoing, but a six-hour inspection by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports has cast serious doubt on those claims. The ministry's intervention suggests significant evidence has been gathered regarding the alleged breach of regulations. The law explicitly states that an individual authorized to represent or manage a sports club cannot simultaneously be a member of the management body or a shareholder of another sports club in the same sport, nor can they be involved in player transfers.

Vegh's position as president of the Football School Association, in addition to her club presidency, further complicates the situation. If found guilty, Vegh is likely to face a ban from working in sports for approximately one year, a severe consequence that could force her immediate resignation from the club's leadership.
