No Candidate Recommended Yet for Bank Indonesia Governor Role, Says Interim Head

Destry Damayanti, Senior Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI), has confirmed that the government has not yet proposed any candidates to succeed Perry Warjiyo as the central bank's governor. Damayanti is currently serving as the interim Governor of BI following Warjiyo's resignation.

Speaking at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Monday, July 27, 2026, Damayanti stated that the process for appointing a new BI governor is governed by the Bank Indonesia Law. If a governor resigns voluntarily, the selection process begins according to established procedures.

This process involves the nomination of qualified members for the Board of Governors, followed by selection and appointment by the President with the approval of the House of Representatives (DPR). Damayanti emphasized that all these steps are clearly outlined in the Bank Indonesia Law and will be followed meticulously.

So everything is already in the Bank Indonesia Law. So the provisions like that will be followed.

Damayanti's own role as interim Governor is mandated by Law No. 23 of 1999 concerning Bank Indonesia, as amended. According to the law, the Senior Deputy Governor assumes the duties of the Governor in case of a permanent vacancy, such as a resignation, until a definitive governor is appointed. When asked about her own potential candidacy for the governor position, Damayanti declined to speculate, stating her sole focus is on fulfilling her current responsibilities as interim governor in accordance with the law.

If the Governor has a permanent vacancy, including resigning, the Senior Deputy Governor will replace the Governor's role as Acting Governor until a definitive governor is appointed through a process initiated by the President.
