No safe haven for bandits, Ododo vows to reclaim Kogi forests

Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo has declared a no-holds-barred offensive against criminal elements, vowing to reclaim the state's forests from terrorists, bandits, and other violent groups. The governor made this firm commitment during a visit to the training camp for newly recruited Forest Guards in Lokoja.

"There will be no safe haven for terrorists, bandits and other violent criminals operating within the state," Ododo stated emphatically. "We are determined to rid Kogi of criminal elements and we will deploy all lawful resources necessary to guarantee the safety of residents and visitors." He urged the forest guards to perform their duties with discipline, patriotism, and a strong commitment to service.

The governor highlighted that the state's vast, unguarded forest areas have become a significant security challenge, providing hideouts for criminal groups and facilitating attacks on innocent citizens. The recruitment and training of Forest Guards are central to the state's security strategy, designed to enhance surveillance, prevent criminals from accessing safe havens, and bolster the response capabilities of security agencies.

This initiative aligns with the Forest Guard Programme approved by President Bola Tinubu and is being implemented in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services, and other security institutions. Governor Ododo also inspected newly procured Armoured Personnel Carriers intended to boost the operational capacity of security agencies, reaffirming his administration's unwavering focus on security as a top priority.
