No student died in hostel collapse, Anambra federal poly insists

The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Anambra State, has refuted claims that any of its students died in the collapse of the Elite Five Star Hostel in Amaokpala. The institution's Public Relations Officer, Dr. Oguegbu Udoka, clarified that the privately owned building, located off-campus, housed both students and non-students.

Udoka stated that no student has been confirmed dead and that the two individuals believed to be trapped are reportedly not students. He added that most students had already departed the campus after completing their second-semester examinations before the incident occurred on Sunday night. The Rector, Dr. Chioma Awuzie, visited the scene with school officials, and state government officials are involved in the rescue efforts.

The National Emergency Management Agency has secured the collapsed building's premises. The Anambra State Emergency Management Agency confirmed the recovery of a female victim's body, with a young man still trapped. Three injured individuals were taken to the hospital. The rescue operation continues with heavy-duty excavators and other equipment, while security personnel have cordoned off the area.
