No Yobe LGA under terrorists’ control – SSG

The Yobe State government asserts that it has successfully transformed the state from a conflict-ravaged area into one where security has been largely restored, making virtually all communities accessible. The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mohammed Goje, highlighted this achievement as the foundation for subsequent development in critical sectors like healthcare, education, agriculture, infrastructure, and social protection.

If I were to follow the conventional approach, I would have preferred that this assessment be made after the administration leaves office so that nobody would accuse me of bias. But from 2019 to date, across virtually all development indices, I can confidently say the administration has performed very well. This is evidence-based and can be verified through available data.

Goje emphasized that the administration, led by Governor Mai Mala Buni since 2019, has made significant progress across various development indices. He pointed to the accessibility of communities as a key indicator, stating that it was impossible in 2019 due to Boko Haram activities. Today, he claims, one can travel safely to any local government area and return within the same day, with nearly all of the state's 178 political wards now accessible.

Today, as I speak to you, there is no local government area in Yobe that is inaccessible. You can leave Damaturu in the afternoon, travel to any local government and safely return. That was impossible in 2019.

This restoration of security has allowed both government and humanitarian organizations to resume operations in areas previously inaccessible due to insurgency. Goje also detailed advancements in healthcare, noting the recruitment of over 6,000 healthcare workers and the completion of nearly 150 functional Primary Healthcare Centres, with a policy to ensure every political ward has one. He stressed that these are verifiable achievements that have not only improved health services but also created thousands of jobs, supporting numerous families.

Governor Buni made it a policy that every political ward should have one functional Primary Healthcare Centre. Functional does not mean buildings alone. It includes equipment, personnel, infrastructure and essential services.
