Noh Salleh Eyes Collaboration With Aisha Retno

Noh Salleh says working with Aubrey Suwito is a long-awaited opportunity. The singer and composer will perform with Suwito’s orchestra at “Cadenza of the Soul: Noh Salleh with Aubrey Suwito Orchestra” on Nov. 8 at Idea Live Arena in Kuala Lumpur.

Noh said he had admired Suwito since he first became interested in music, particularly because of Suwito’s collaborations with Malaysian singer Siti Nurhaliza. After working with Alvin Witarsa at Petronas Philharmonic Hall last year, he said he felt especially excited to receive another opportunity to perform with a musician he had long respected.

Since I first became interested in music, I have watched Aubrey work with Tok Ti. I used to wonder when it would be my turn to work with him.

Suwito has asked Noh to submit his compositions and plans to arrange several of them for the concert. Their earlier orchestral performance at the hall involved about 40 musicians, while the new production could add roughly 20 more, although the final lineup remains under discussion.

Noh also said he would like to work with Aisha Retno, as well as Marsha Milan Londoh. He praised Aisha for writing “Kesuma,” a song that drew attention after Siti Nurhaliza recorded it, and said the younger musician had shown both dedication and a strong understanding of Siti’s artistic position.
