Norris edges Hamilton to take Hungarian GP pole

Lando Norris claimed pole position for the Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix, edging out Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton by a mere 0.012 seconds at the Hungaroring. This marks Norris's first pole of the 2026 season, with his fastest lap clocking in at one minute 17.207 seconds.

Hamilton's teammate Charles Leclerc secured third place. However, both Hamilton and Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli faced penalties. Hamilton was penalized for impeding Oscar Piastri, and Antonelli for failing to slow under a yellow flag. These penalties will see Hamilton start the race from fifth and Antonelli from seventh on the grid.

Hamilton commented that he felt comfortable during qualifying but admitted Ferrari had gone out early for their final runs. "We were quick throughout qualifying, but in the end we just missed out on pole," he said, unable to fully capitalize on improving track conditions.
