Norris: "Fantastic feeling to be back on pole"

Lando Norris described securing pole position for the Hungarian Grand Prix as a "fantastic feeling" after a long wait. The McLaren driver's 17th career pole, and his first of the current season, came at the Hungaroring circuit near Budapest.

"It's a fantastic feeling to be back on pole after so long, but I've been optimistic all weekend," Norris stated. He credited the car's strong performance and the team's "sensational" work on new upgrades for their success. This pole position marks the first time this year a driver other than a Mercedes has started from the front, breaking the German team's streak.

Norris, who last achieved pole at the Las Vegas Grand Prix in November, acknowledged that his final laps in Q3 were not perfect. However, he felt they had the necessary pace when it counted. "Having secured pole is a great boost for all of us," he added, noting his 46 career podiums in Formula One.

Looking ahead to the race, Norris anticipates a challenging fight, particularly against Ferrari, whose pace has been impressive. "The Ferraris have shown incredible pace, and tire degradation is going to be a determining factor," he said. While starting from pole offers an advantage, Norris stressed the importance of a good start and a solid race strategy to secure his first win of the season.
