North Al Batinah reinforces its position in food-production field

North Al Batinah Governorate is solidifying its position as a key food-production hub, demonstrating sustained growth across its productive sectors in 2025. This progress is attributed to a combination of strategic projects, attractive investment opportunities, and robust infrastructure, including advanced logistical services.

the governorate possesses a broad agricultural production base, as the cultivated area by the end of 2025 reached approximately 99,676 feddans, compared to 94,242 feddans in the previous year, achieving a growth of 4.35 percent, alongside 61 agricultural nurseries and two agricultural research stations.

Eng. Nasser Ali Al Marshoodi, Director General of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources in the governorate, highlighted the significant expansion in agriculture. The cultivated area grew by 4.35 percent to approximately 99,676 feddans by the end of 2025. Vegetable production neared 860,000 tonnes, fruit production surpassed 87,000 tonnes, and fodder crops exceeded 225,000 tonnes. These gains were supported by programs promoting improved Omani wheat varieties and establishing model fields for various fruit crops.

the Ministry continued to implement agricultural support programs that contributed to raising productivity and improving crop quality through expanding the cultivation of improved Omani wheat varieties and establishing model fields for mango, lemon, guava, fig, and sidr crops, among others.

Preventive measures have also played a crucial role. Intensive programs successfully reduced red palm weevil infestations by 36.71 percent. Furthermore, aerial spraying campaigns combated Dubas bugs across 48 villages, covering over 818 feddans. The livestock sector remains a vital component, with approximately 680,000 head of livestock producing 500,000 liters of milk and 4 million poultry annually. This sector benefits from an integrated network of veterinary services, including clinics, laboratories, and a mobile clinic.

The governorate supports this industry with 8 fish markets, 214 marketing outlets, and 31 investment projects, strengthening the entire value chain. Water infrastructure, including dams, cloud seeding stations, and traditional irrigation channels (aflaj), underpins agricultural development, with ongoing projects to enhance water resources. The governorate also maintains an integrated food safety system with multiple offices, establishments, and processing plants.
