Pomegranate harvest begins in Jabal Akhdar

The annual pomegranate harvest has begun in the Wilayat of Jabal Akhdar, located in Oman's A’Dakhiliyah Governorate. This significant agricultural activity, which runs through the month of August, is a crucial economic driver for the region.

Statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources indicate a robust presence of pomegranate cultivation, with over 27,000 trees. The previous season, 2024-2025, saw the crop achieve a marketing value of approximately OMR1.3 million. Furthermore, the quality of the fruit is notably high, with over 90 percent of pomegranates in Jabal Akhdar being healthy, and an average yield of 60 fruits per tree.

Pomegranates are the primary economic crop for the local farmers in Jabal Akhdar. Beyond their agricultural importance, the harvest season also enhances the appeal of the Wilayat for tourism, adding diversity to both recreational and heritage tourism offerings for visitors exploring the area.
