North Duavata carnival to build new classroom

The FMF Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival has announced its primary community project for this year: the construction of a new classroom at Valelawa Primary School in Macuata. This initiative underscores the carnival's dual commitment to raising crime awareness and supporting vital community infrastructure.

Organizers highlighted that students at Valelawa Primary School are currently learning in temporary tents. Their original classrooms were destroyed by Tropical Cyclone Ana in 2021, leaving the school in a vulnerable state for years. This project aims to provide a permanent and safe learning environment.

Satish Kumar, the carnival's organizer and chairman, emphasized the ongoing dedication to community development alongside crime prevention efforts. He stated that fundraising activities throughout the carnival will directly contribute to building the much-needed classroom.

FMF's recent signing of a three-year sponsorship agreement provides a significant boost to the carnival's fundraising capabilities. The event, themed "Duavata for Everyone’s Safety and the Fight Against Drugs," will feature 18 contestants across various categories.

The week-long carnival is scheduled to take place from July 24 to August 1 at Subrail Park Ground Two in Labasa. It aims to engage the community in discussions about safety and the fight against illicit substances, while simultaneously working towards tangible improvements for local education.
