North Korea plans nuclear-armed navy, larger warships

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has announced ambitious plans to enhance the nation's naval power, including the integration of nuclear weapons and the construction of larger warships. The announcement came during the commissioning ceremony for the Choe Hyon, a new multi-mission destroyer, at the Nampo port.

According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim Jong Un emphasized the strategic importance of bolstering the navy as part of Pyongyang's ongoing efforts to strengthen its overall military capabilities. The Choe Hyon, a 5,000-ton class vessel, is reportedly one of two such ships planned for the fleet, signaling a significant step-up in naval hardware.
