Northern Conference U18 Women’s Youth League kicks off in Madang

The Northern Conference Under-18 Women's Youth League has officially commenced in Madang, Papua New Guinea, marking a significant step for women's football in the region. Six teams are competing in the six-week competition, which aims to foster talent and provide valuable experience for young female athletes.

The inaugural league brings together Tusbab Blue Kumuls, Nabasa Marlins FC, Mimlon Seagulls FC, Momase Madfox Pawa, Wagsford Jomba FC, and Lusco Drifters FC. Madang hosted the opening matches, which saw Nabasa Marlins FC defeat Tusbab Blue Kumuls 2-0, Mimlon Seagulls FC secure a 3-0 victory over Momase Madfox Pawa, and Wagsford Jomba FC win against Lusco Drifters FC 4-2.

Madang Soccer Association General Secretary John Maripa thanked the Papua New Guinea Football Association for granting Madang hosting rights. He emphasized that this is the first time the city has hosted such a competition and urged families and football supporters to rally behind the young players. "It is the first time for us to run this competition, and we are hoping to get more supporters. I am urging families to come out and support these young girls," Maripa stated.

Organizers believe the league will create crucial pathways for young female footballers in Madang, enabling them to hone their skills and pursue opportunities within the sport. The competition is expected to serve as an important platform for the next generation of female footballers in Madang to gain competitive experience and showcase their talents. The league encourages broad community attendance and support throughout its duration.
