Northern Regional Minister vows support for Ghana Statistical Service

Northern Regional Minister Mr. Ali Adolf John Mburidiba has pledged his full support to the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), committing to collaboration in tackling operational challenges and bolstering the use of reliable data for regional development. He emphasized that precise and prompt statistics are fundamental for crafting effective policies, allocating resources efficiently, and conducting thorough monitoring and evaluation.

During a courtesy visit by the GSS Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu, and his team to the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) in Tamale, Minister Mburidiba highlighted the importance of strengthening the relationship between the GSS and the NRCC. He believes this collaboration will significantly support the region's development agenda by ensuring that interventions are evidence-based and address the actual needs of communities.

Accurate and timely statistics were essential for effective policy formulation, resource allocation, monitoring and evaluation, and informed decision-making.

Dr. Iddrisu echoed the minister's sentiments, stressing that the visit aimed to forge stronger institutional ties with regional and local authorities to improve cooperation. He acknowledged the NRCC's existing support for the GSS in the region and appealed for increased assistance. Dr. Iddrisu explained that delays in providing administrative data can impede the timely compilation and dissemination of crucial statistics needed for development planning.

To ensure data flows smoothly, Dr. Iddrisu urged the Regional Minister to facilitate enhanced cooperation between the GSS and decentralized departments and agencies, particularly at the district level. He called for a renewed commitment from both institutions to deepen their collaboration, improve data-sharing mechanisms, and work with other stakeholders to champion evidence-based development planning across the country.
