Norway's 100m hurdlers eliminated in European Championship semifinals

For the first time in European Championship history, Norway fielded two women in the 100-meter hurdles semifinals, but neither Martine Kolbeinshavn Hjørnevik nor Elea Jørstad Bock managed to secure a spot in the final. The event marked a significant milestone for Norwegian athletics in the discipline.

Hjørnevik, 25, competed in the first semifinal, finishing fourth with a time of 12.97 seconds. Despite a strong start, she reported hitting a hurdle mid-race, disrupting her rhythm. "It stops a bit and I have to start over. It's a bit annoying," Hjørnevik commented, though she expressed overall satisfaction with her performance and the learning experience at the championship.

Elea Jørstad Bock, 23, placed fifth in her semifinal with a time of 13.10 seconds. The top two finishers from each semi, along with the two fastest overall times among the remaining competitors, advanced to the final, which was scheduled for later that evening.

Despite not reaching the final, the athletes achieved notable performances. Hjørnevik had previously won her heat with the third-best time overall (12.82 seconds) and has had a breakthrough season, lowering her personal best to 12.74 seconds, just shy of the Norwegian record. Bock's personal best is 12.87 seconds. Lovise Skarbøvik Andresen was the third Norwegian in the event but fell during her preliminary heat.
