Norwegian FA reviews youth football rules after regional dispute

Norway's Football Association (NFF) is considering rule changes following a contentious dispute in youth football in the Agder region. The conflict arose when five clubs refused to play against a team from Dvergsnes and Høllen, citing concerns over player selection and recruitment practices outside the local community. The NFF has since resolved the immediate issue, concluding that the Dvergsnes and Høllen teams did not violate any regulations. However, the association plans to review its rulebook to ensure it adequately protects the principles of good and healthy youth football. "The NFF will, in the wake of this case, consider whether the current rules sufficiently protect values and principles that the vast majority believe promote good and healthy youth football," stated Alf Hansen, director of development and activity at the NFF. He emphasized Norway's unique youth sports model, which prioritizes inclusive play within local communities without an overemphasis on results. While boycotts are deemed unacceptable, Hansen noted an agreement among clubs to adhere to guidelines regarding fair play, local participation, and club-controlled transfers, providing a path forward for collaboration.
