Norwegian police to acquire new Volvo and Mercedes-Benz vehicles worth 1.1 billion kroner

Norway's police force is set to receive a significant fleet upgrade, with new Volvo XC60 patrol cars and Mercedes-Benz Vito cell vehicles scheduled for deployment between 2027 and 2033. The police have signed agreements with Volvo Car Norway and Bertel O. Steen for these vehicles, marking a substantial investment in the force's operational capabilities.

The procurement, valued at 1.1 billion kroner, follows a tender process where price and quality were assessed against the police's stringent requirements for operational suitability, functionality, safety, and maintenance. Five potential suppliers expressed interest in the contract.

Helge Clem, director of the Police Shared Services (PFT), highlighted the importance of these new contracts. "The new contracts ensure the police have access to critically important equipment during a time of increased uncertainty and rapid change," Clem stated. He added that the vehicles will strengthen readiness and offer new functional solutions for officers, while also providing predictability for both the police and suppliers throughout the contract period.

Both dealerships expressed pride in their role in supplying the police. Prototypes will be developed and tested before the vehicles can be ordered for use starting in the spring of 2027.
