NOUN appoints acting bursar after university chief’s killing

The National Open University of Nigeria has appointed Ramatu Ibrahim as acting bursar following the reported killing of the institution’s bursar, Nasir Marafa, in Zamfara State.

The appointment, announced by Registrar Oladipo Ajayi in a public notice on Tuesday evening, took effect immediately. It came during a three-day mourning period declared for Marafa, which began on Monday and ends on Wednesday.

Ibrahim previously served as Deputy Bursar, Treasury. The university said she had worked across major operational units of the Bursary Department, building experience in accounting, financial management, treasury operations and related administration. In her previous role, it said, she provided professional leadership and oversight of treasury operations.

Ajayi said the appointment aimed at “ensuring continuity, stability and effective leadership in the university’s financial administration at a critical period.” University management described Ibrahim as an experienced administrator with extensive knowledge of NOUN’s financial systems and institutional processes.

The appointment was approved by Vice-Chancellor Uduma Oji Uduma with the concurrence of Pro-Chancellor and Council Chairman Isa Yuguda. The university said it expected Ibrahim to serve with “professionalism, diligence, integrity and a strong sense of institutional responsibility.”

NOUN also mourned Marafa, describing him as “a dedicated and dependable officer who served the institution with commitment, professionalism and integrity.” It said his contributions to the university’s financial administration and institutional development would be remembered “with gratitude and appreciation.”
