Novi Sad park project cost 3.2 million euros, opposition claims

The Civic Movement Bravo has published comprehensive documentation alleging that the construction of a park near the SPENS sports and business center in Novi Sad cost a total of approximately 3.2 million euros. The movement claims the project represents "systemic theft" by the authorities.

According to Bravo's councilor Miran Pogačar, the city allegedly overpaid significantly for various park amenities. He stated that two smart benches alone cost 200,000 euros, ordinary benches were priced at 2,500 euros each, and benches with ashtrays cost 3,500 euros. The movement asserts that the published documents clearly show that a standard trash can cost taxpayers 265,000 dinars, and one with an ashtray cost 411,480 dinars.

Bravo also highlighted the cost of the smart benches, which they claim citizens paid 100,100 euros for (equivalent to 11.7 million dinars), and information boards priced at 70,000 euros. The movement further pointed to additional works, including the insertion of 10 plaques bearing the names of Olympians. The computer engraving for a single brass plaque alone was allegedly charged at 624,000 dinars, with an additional 480,000 dinars for "folkloric protection of paths and crane installation."

Novi Sad Mayor Žarko Mićin has denied these claims. However, Bravo maintains that the official state documents they have released unequivocally demonstrate "the cynical and arrogant plundering of the budget of the Province and the City of Novi Sad."

The movement concluded that Novi Sad could have acquired several new parks with the funds spent on this single project, labeling it a "monument to systemic robbery."
