NRC, NSCDC foil railway vandalism attempt in Osun, recover nine cylinders

Security personnel recovered nine oxygen cylinders after suspected vandals fled a railway siding in Osogbo, according to the Nigerian Railway Corporation.

The NRC said its principal track officer received a report on Friday, August 28, about vandalism at the siding serving Dangote Steel Rolling Mills. The officer went to the site with security personnel, prompting the suspects to leave.

On sighting the security operatives, the suspected vandals fled the scene.

A search of the area produced the cylinders, which the corporation said had reportedly been brought for the illegal operation. Officers from the NSCDC Railway Command and other security personnel then secured the railway materials and the surrounding area.

Opeifa also urged communities near railway tracks, stations and other facilities to report suspicious activity. He said railway infrastructure is essential to safe operations, continued services and Nigeria’s economic development.
