NRLW star Ali Brigginshaw faces judiciary over dangerous tackle

Brisbane Broncos NRLW star Ali Brigginshaw is facing a potential lengthy suspension after being referred directly to the judiciary for a dangerous lifting tackle. The incident occurred during last weekend's Magic Round, marring the Broncos' otherwise dominant 34-4 victory over the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.

Brigginshaw, a key player in her final NRLW season before retirement, was sin-binned for the first-half tackle on Bulldogs halfback Tayla Preston. The tackle involved swinging Preston around and lifting her before driving her into the ground head-first. While Preston avoided serious injury, the severity of the tackle resulted in Brigginshaw receiving a grade three dangerous throw charge.

The 36-year-old has been a consistent presence for the Broncos since the competition's inception in 2018, having never missed a game. She is scheduled to present her case at the judiciary on Tuesday night, where she will enter her plea and could face a significant ban.

This referral to the judiciary is a rare occurrence in the NRLW. The last player to face a direct judiciary referral was Sydney Roosters forward Aliyah Nasio, following a brawl at the conclusion of last year's grand final. Nasio received a four-match ban for a grade three striking charge.

The Broncos, currently undefeated and leading the ladder, have a challenging schedule ahead, including matches against Canberra, a grand final rematch with the Roosters, and a derby against the Gold Coast Titans. Brigginshaw's potential absence could significantly impact the team's performance as they aim to defend their premiership.
