NSIB recovers evidence in Warri-Itakpe train derailment probe

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has made significant progress in its investigation into the derailment of a train on the Warri-Itakpe rail corridor, which occurred on June 8, 2026.

Investigators have successfully retrieved critical evidence and concluded key on-site activities at the accident scene. The NSIB's Director-General, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., personally led the investigation team, underscoring the seriousness of the incident. He was joined by Mr. Kayode Opeifa, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, and Engr. Funsho Adebiyi, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, highlighting a coordinated response among key transportation stakeholders.

During the on-site investigation, the team meticulously documented the accident site, examined the damaged rail equipment and infrastructure, and gathered essential operational and technical information. Personnel connected to the train's operation were interviewed as part of the inquiry.
