Heavy rain, windstorm kill grandmother, granddaughter in Bauchi

A severe rainstorm accompanied by strong winds has devastated the Bara community in Bauchi State, Nigeria, claiming the lives of a 50-year-old woman and her four-year-old granddaughter. The victims, Aisha Sagir and Aisha Shuaibu, were residents of Unguwar Katsinawa in Bara Village.

The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, June 10, 2026, following a downpour. The storm not only resulted in the loss of life but also caused widespread destruction to several houses, livestock, and other valuables estimated to be worth millions of naira.

Preliminary reports indicate that on June 10, 2026, Kirfi Local Government Area experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds. The severe weather incident resulted in the tragic loss of Aisha Sagir, 50-year-old, and her granddaughter, Aisha Shuaibu, 4-year-old, both of Unguwar Katsinawa, Bara Village, Kirfi LGA.

Operatives from the Kirfi Divisional Police Headquarters visited the affected area to assess the damage and ensure law and order. The state's Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family and the community, praying for the repose of the deceased's souls and strength for their loved ones.

The police command assured residents of continued collaboration with relevant agencies to support disaster response efforts and safeguard lives and property. They urged the public to remain vigilant during the rainy season and report emergencies promptly.
