NTT rocked by over 7,400 aftershocks, death toll climbs to 103

Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) continues to be shaken by aftershocks, with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recording a staggering 7,492 seismic events as of Wednesday. These tremors follow a significant earthquake that struck the region, leaving a trail of devastation.

The data, updated as of Wednesday morning, reveals the intensity of the ongoing seismic activity. The largest recorded aftershock reached a magnitude of 6.2, while the smallest was a 1.0 magnitude tremor. BMKG's report highlighted that 33 of these aftershocks surpassed a magnitude of 5, and a considerable 143 were directly felt by the local population, underscoring the persistent threat to communities.

The cumulative impact of these earthquakes has been tragic. The death toll has risen to 103 people across several districts, including Manggarai, Manggarai Timur, and Nagekeo. In addition to the fatalities, the number of injured individuals has reached 1,666, according to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB). These figures represent the human cost of the disaster, with thousands grappling with injuries and loss.
