Nuevo Laredo improves perception of its government; remains the most efficient municipality in Tamaulipas

Citizen perception of the effectiveness of the Nuevo Laredo government in Tamaulipas, Mexico, has seen a notable increase during the second quarter of 2026. Results from the National Urban Public Security Survey (ENSU), conducted by INEGI, show a 5.6 percentage point rise in the evaluation of the administration led by Mayor Carmen Lilia Canturosas Villarreal.

This improvement places Nuevo Laredo among the top-rated municipalities nationwide and solidifies its position as the most approved government in Tamaulipas. The survey indicated that the indicator for governmental effectiveness rose from 51.4% to 57.0% compared to the previous quarter, reflecting growing public trust in the municipal government's performance.

Nationally, Nuevo Laredo secured the fourth position in government effectiveness, trailing only Ciudad del Carmen, San Nicolás de los Garza, and Apodaca. This achievement is part of a sustained positive trend observed over the last five years, according to local government officials.

The municipal administration attributes this success to strategic investments in infrastructure development, the enhancement of public services, and dedicated citizen attention. Furthermore, actions focused on education, health, and social programs for various segments of the population have contributed to the improved perception.

Mayor Carmen Lilia Canturosas Villarreal acknowledged the results, stating that the increased perception of effectiveness reinforces the commitment to continue working with proximity and responsibility. She emphasized that public trust is built through tangible results and a government that actively addresses the population's needs. The ENSU survey, conducted quarterly by INEGI, assesses public perception of security, government performance, public service quality, and municipal government effectiveness.
