Núñez and Prieto tour Mercado 4, hear calls for support

Asunción mayoral candidate Soledad Núñez, representing the Juntos por Asunción alliance, visited the Mercado Municipal N° 4, accompanied by opposition presidential hopeful Miguel Prieto and Capital representative Johanna Ortega. The visit aimed to connect with merchants and workers, who voiced their urgent need for municipal administration that addresses their concerns and collaborates effectively.

During the tour, Núñez emphasized the importance of working together to revitalize the city. Prieto noted the public's engagement, stating that people take time to express their trust and expectations for good governance, particularly from Núñez as the future mayor. Ortega highlighted the visit as a reflection of the public's desire for change, which she believes Núñez can deliver.

The joint appearance underscored a show of opposition unity, particularly between Núñez and Ortega, who had previously vied for the opposition's sole candidacy for Asunción mayor. Prieto had initially supported Ortega, but she conceded after an internal poll and now backs Núñez. This alignment aims to present a united front against the incumbent administration.

Recalling past elections, Ortega's previous mayoral candidacy in 2021 was seen by some as having divided opposition votes, potentially aiding the victory of Oscar “Nenecho” Rodríguez. However, Ortega maintains that her voters were distinct from those of the liberal candidate, Senator Eduardo Nakayama. The liberal party has accused other factions within their ranks of betraying the party by supporting the ruling Colorado Party.
