Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang throws first pitch at KBO game, praises 'chimaek'

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang took to the mound at Seoul's Jamsil Baseball Stadium on Saturday to throw the ceremonial first pitch for a KBO League game between the Doosan Bears and the Kiwoom Heroes. Huang, who arrived in South Korea on Thursday, donned a custom Doosan Bears home uniform, featuring his name and the number 93 in Korean characters, a nod to Nvidia's founding year.

Before his pitch, Huang addressed the crowd, exclaiming, "Hello, Korea!" He expressed his gratitude for the welcome extended to him, his family, and Nvidia. "Nvidia and Korea's gaming industry will grow together," Huang stated, highlighting his meetings with various Korean partners and his enjoyment of local cuisine. He particularly praised the combination of fried chicken and beer, famously known as "chimaek" in Korea, even ordering 113 servings of chicken for the Nvidia team.

The ceremonial pitch itself was a lively moment, with Huang's throw heading towards the head of Doosan Group Chairman Park Jeong-won, who was the designated hitter. Catcher Yang Eui-ji quickly intervened to catch the ball. Following the pitch, Huang interacted with fans in the stands, offering high-fives and autographs.

This appearance marks Huang's first time participating in a KBO League ceremonial first pitch. The event was reportedly initiated by Huang, an avid baseball fan, who expressed a desire to watch a Korean professional baseball game. The Doosan Group facilitated the event, preparing special seating and souvenirs for Huang and approximately 200 Nvidia employees attending the game. Huang was also scheduled to meet with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won later that evening.
