Goodness Chiemerie Nwachukwu has successfully defended her Commonwealth Games discuss gold medal, smashing her own world record with a throw of 39.66m in the Women's Discuss F42-44/F61-64 category. The victory adds another gold medal to Team Nigeria's tally, bringing their total to seven at the ongoing 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Adding to Nigeria's success, 19-year-old Jessica Oji clinched a historic silver medal in the shot put event with her best throw of 17.87m. This medal is a significant achievement for Team Nigeria, especially after their favorite in the 100m final, Kanyinsola Ajayi, narrowly missed out on gold.

Nwachukwu's dominant performance was a welcome relief for Team Nigeria officials, who had been anticipating a track and field gold. Her win marks a repeat of her Birmingham success four years ago.
