Nwaneri Sparks Dortmund Comeback in Bundesliga Debut

Ethan Nwaneri’s Bundesliga debut ended with a decisive deflection and a Borussia Dortmund comeback. The Arsenal loanee cut in from the left and shot with four minutes of regular time remaining, but the ball took a major deflection off Hoffenheim defender Albian Hajdari and went into the net.

Dortmund had trailed 2-0 after goals from Leon Avdullahu and Tim Lemperle, with Hoffenheim controlling much of the opening hour. Nwaneri entered after 30 minutes when Filippo Mane suffered an injury. Serhou Guirassy began the recovery shortly after the hour mark, then set up Fabio Silva five minutes later as Dortmund scored three times in the final half-hour.

Nwaneri arrived from Arsenal on a season-long loan on deadline day. He is the youngest player in Premier League history, according to the report.

Elsewhere, Bundesliga newcomers Elversberg made it two wins from two after beating Borussia Moenchengladbach 4-3. Gladbach led twice and held a 3-1 advantage midway through the second half, but Felix Keidel equalised with 10 minutes remaining before Maurice Krattenmacher scored in stoppage time. Bayer Leverkusen responded to their opening defeat by beating Union Berlin 4-0 at home. Werder Bremen beat RB Leipzig 3-1, with West Ham loanee Niclas Fuellkrug scoring his second goal in three games, while Freiburg won 1-0 at promoted Paderborn. Bayern Munich were due to face promoted Schalke later Saturday.
