Nykøbing Falster and Odense share points in Danish Champions League clash

Nykøbing Falster came within seconds of an upset, but the first all-Danish meeting of this Champions League group stage ended 27-27 against Odense Håndbold.

The home side had possession for the final attack and a golden chance to take the win. Instead, the move faded away in the closing seconds. Kristina “Mulle” Kristiansen eventually fired a desperate shot, but the clock had already run out.

Nykøbing Falster last played in the competition’s elite group two years ago and finished bottom of its group. Sunday’s performance offered a more encouraging start this time, especially because of Clara Lerby’s display on the left wing. The Swedish player caused Odense major problems and scored 12 goals.

Lerby brought Nykøbing level at 27-27 from a penalty with just over a minute remaining. Odense then gave the ball away, putting the home team within reach of victory. Coach Niels Agesen called a timeout and planned the final 27 seconds, but Nykøbing appeared satisfied with securing one point.

The match was the first of 14 group games for both teams. Odense will host Croatia’s Podravka next weekend, while Nykøbing Falster will travel to Hungary to face Győr.
