O'Higgins snatches late win against La Serena, nears cup places

O'Higgins secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Deportes La Serena, bouncing back from their midweek Copa Sudamericana elimination. The win, achieved at Estadio La Portada, concluded a five-match winless run for the team and propelled them closer to the international cup qualification spots.

Despite early chances for both sides, including a shot that hit the crossbar for the home team, it was Deportes La Serena who opened the scoring in the 21st minute. Jeisson Vargas found the net after an unchallenged run into the area, giving the hosts a lead they controlled for a period.

However, O'Higgins rallied in the second half. Lucas Bovaglio's side equalized in the 65th minute when Arnaldo Castillo finished a play that started with a quick advance down the right flank. Castillo then sealed the victory in the dying moments of the match, heading home a corner kick in the 90+5th minute.

This crucial win lifts O'Higgins to eighth place in the league table with 23 points. In contrast, Deportes La Serena remains in 13th place with 19 points, just two above the relegation zone. For their next fixtures, La Serena will face Coquimbo Unido, while O'Higgins will host Deportes Limache.
